What started as a particularly bitter status update quickly morphed into a full-blown "vent"...
A little letting-off of steam:

I find it fascinating that the meat industry feels compelled to use and/or invent aliases for the furry animals they hawk to make them more palatable to the average consumer (and I mean palatable in every sense of the word...)
"Pork" ring any bells? Venison, anyone?! BEEF? What's next? An easily digestable catch-phrase for the dog, America's favorite four-legged animal?! If it's cute and cuddly, the name's gotta go. Geez louise.

According to an Australian newspaper, a competition was held in late 2005 to decide the new and "improved" name for kangaroo meat.
Mm-hmm... scary. Seriously.
Are we so eager to justiy the means to our end that we allow a temporary suspension of our conscience (assuming we have one) in satisfying a MINOR physical craving?* Do folks forget what they're putting in their mouths, or do they just not care? In case no one was aware, animals, as sentient beings, experience pain and fear.

GOOD GRIEF.
A rose by any other name is still a rose.

*Meat is not the only source of complete protein or calories, and not even close to being the best. On average, Americans consume TWO OR THREE TIMES MORE than the amount of protein that they need every day; this can, and usually does, lead to a number of serious health problems.

p.s. I carried a dazed and disoriented chicken away from Highway 129 today, and I suppose that's what's responsible for my outburst/tirade/time-spent-on-the-proverbial-soapbox. I hate the poultry industry. There, I said it.
