About Me:

Hi. My name is Claudia. I am a mom and full-time employee at Brenau University. I just finished my MBA courses and will walk in graduation May 2009.

I work full-time for the IT department at Brenau University, supporting various areas of technology.

My son, Dakota, 8 years old, has a condition known as Asperger's Syndrome. It is considered one of the many disorders on the Autism Spectrum, characterized by limited social abilities and a need for things to remain the same, routines, clothes and food.

Asperger's syndrome is sometimes called high-functioning autism because there are typically no language delays associated with the condition. My son's teacher has described my son's behavior and manner of speaking as that of a 'little man'. He continues to remain above his grade level academically and hates to repeat the same academic work after he understands it. He will let it be known that he is fed up with something by walking out of classrooms or hitting, particularly if he gets bored or dislikes anything about the situation.

Without a doubt, Dakota has made my life incredibly interesting. I am a much stronger person than I'd ever thought I could be because of his impact on my life. He certainly tests my limits in every possible way, as most children do but there is nothing like Dakota.
