Another good resource as a follow-up to Linda's comment is the Sandbox Learning site. Great ideas on how to modify behavior and prepare a child for transitions.

Parents and teachers of children with Asperger's might also be interested in Addressing the Challenging Behavior of Children with High-Functioning Autism/Asperger Syndrome in the Classroom: A Guide for Teachers and Parents, by Rebecca Moyes, a teacher turned educational consultant and the mother of a child with Asperger's Syndrome. The book "...is an outstanding easy-to-follow guide that helps teachers, other professionals, and parents develop effective individualized positive behavioral supports for children with ASD in all settings. The author offers methods, approaches,
and examples that are based on current research and that
are used in the field. Throughout the book, the approach taken to develop support plans addresses the functions of behaviors as opposed to the type of the behavior. ...the book's easy-to read style targets all of the members of a support team addressing two areas which are most difficult for children with ASD: how to handle social skill deficits addressing behavior problems. The text is of manageable length and outlines the strategies that can be performed to provide relief from problem behaviors that disrupt the instructional time in regular education classrooms." (from a review by Amy Rockenstein, U. of Pittsburgh) The book is available in print from the library, online via NetLibrary, or through our new bookstore vender, Barnes and Noble, at http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Addressing-the-Challenging-Behavior-of-Children-with-High-Functioning-Autism-Asperger-Syndrome-in-the-Classroom/Rebecca-A-Moyes/e/9781843107194/?itm=1
